Today, I decided to play my tenor saxophone to burn some time before I left for Fremont (to wait for traffic to settle down). The horn was in better condition than I previously thought! Haha, I had no idea it would still be fully functional...I remember the last time I put my hands on it, the octave key was so sluggish that I couldn't play anything above C# and my G# key also didn't seem to work. After pressing the keys and playing a bit, I must have loosened the oils in the keys because everything was functioning as normal. Of course, the only thing is that a few pearls in addition to some felt fell off. No problem really, just feels annoying.
I think I will play the tenor again tomorrow. . . . In fact, I should play it and get my does of tenor saxophone while I can because I don't intend to bring it to Japan with me. Speaking of which, just carrying that case was enough to make me recall how much of a pain it is.
In terms of playing, alto is definitely much more...natural to me--mostly because that's originally what I started playing. But also because I feel like I can center my tone easier than tenor. On tenor, I feel like my sound is too dull, too spread, and just not very lively. My tone isn't muddy at least. Maybe I'm just not used to playing it enough. Whichever the case is, my main horn is alto.
