Yesterday, I received the official O.K. from this school I have applied to way back in September. So I will be going to Japan sometime in the next month. This process has proven to be a real pain in the ass. I kinda knew from previous experience that dealing with Japanese institutions is a difficult process. One that could possibly deter an individual from pursuing their goals (I'm serious). Let me just say that in filling out forms, make sure you have everything correct (i.e. no strikethrough or white-out) or else they will ask you to redo the whole form over. Well...that was just one of the many struggles, but its all behind me and I'm ready to get the visa ASAP.
Yesterday and today also marks an unfortunate closer to someone that has shaped my life, however. I can't really believe this, but it is what it is... He will definitely be missed. All those years going to Francis Scott Key and baseball and biking and camping and fishing. Shit, that was my life back then. How he managed to want to make time for us kids is something I NEED to learn. That is what I've learned from him: how to be a true man/the definition of being a man = take responsibility and care. All I can say is that he passed doing what he enjoyed most: fishing.
As far as my training, I'm fairly into this whole health and fitness thing. Really. My life pretty much revolves around weight training and eating. I may not be the 'cleanest' eater but I definitely can draw the line when choosing foods. I got into this whole gym aspect about 9 years ago give or take, but didn't really get serious about 7 years ago. I also didn't know a "sufficient" amount (it's in parenthesis because I still am learning much about kinesiology and nutrition) about this fitness thing until about 6 years ago. And I didn't get serious about dieting until about 3 years ago. Up until about 2 years ago I've seen perhaps the best gains in strength and overall size because of the knowledge I've gained and the food that I've eaten. The food...I keep telling my friends that I am "wearing chicken."
What got me into it is a long story, but in short--and one main reason--is simply that is was a prognosis to a small issue with my body. In freshman year in high school I was getting a physical for wrestling and the doctor thought I may have scoliosis, so he told me to visit the x-ray specialist to get it checked out. Turns out it was just a muscle imbalance that is...I guess more pronounced than normal. So he recommended weight training to balance out my body. (I was 115 lbs. @ ≈5'5" back then...just FYI; a small person). From there on, I've wanted to train, but didn't have a membership until the end of my sophomore year. My uncle generously got me a membership, one that is so cheap even a bum could pay it...... (20 US dollars a year...). And that's when it all began...protein shakes day by day. (as a small note, I've always done this for myself and for no one else. Not for girls thats for sure.)
There's too much I'd like to type, but even I wouldn't want to read this long blurb, so in closing I would just like to say that I also like jazz and got back into playing more saxophone. Invested in a good vintage horn (SuperDynaction pre F# key <--who needs it??). Got back into that [damned] 'sound' dilemma, but tried out a JodyJazz HR*6 (along with several other brands) and found it. Wow, thank you Union Music and Jody Espina. Warmly bright and free blowing. Powerful projection and easy altissimo. Just what I was looking for. Thought I was set on a Beechler or a Claude Lakey. But in terms of the actual mouthpiece, there was nothing more consistent than the JodyJazz's. The Beechler and Lakeys had terrible quality assurance...tip not even, rails uneven, etc. etc. Now to find that good reed brand... I just read the Alexander Superials story...I'll be sure to try some out when I get to Japan...seeing as how they are based in Japan (or actually because some of my music teachers used them and advised me too before).
Well that was a crappy closer so here's the closer for real. I'll probably add more on what I do in terms of working out.
Good night
